Activity description | Please note due to COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions the final component in relation to this program, the travel to Washington D.C, has been unable to proceed as planned. We are currently liaising with the US Embassy in relation to extending the current agreement beyond 31 December 2021. Original Proposal: In tandem with the Regional Workshops on the Future of the US-Australia Alliance program being funded by the US State Department, in cooperation with The University of Western Australia, the Perth USAsia Centre will deliver the following program of activities in relation to the “Alliance Network”: • A one-day workshop, hosted by the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at The Australian National University in February 2020 • An academic engagement trip by early career researchers to Washington D.C. in late 2020 • The production of research outcomes by early career researchers that will lead to an edited monograph and a think tank policy paper published by the Perth USAsia Centre The Alliance Network objectives and expected outcomes are: • Deliver a one-day workshop in Canberra built around the notion of building and ‘Alliance Network’ of scholars • Develop young early career researchers from this group • Provide knowledge and access to key thinkers and policy maker in Washington, D.C • Nurture new and innovative research into the US-Australian relationship from previously unheard voices in policy discussion • Discuss the contemporary nature of The Alliance • Explore research agendas, develop and propose areas for further research and investigation • Build networks and partnerships to explore these research fields and foster research outcomes form a select group of emerging academic though leaders |
