Activity description | The United States Studies Centre has entered into an arrangement with the US Department of State, to conduct a range of activities in Australia in 2019 collectively titled "Indo-Pacific Strategic Futures: Conference and Simulation". The objectives and expected outcomes of the activity — agreed to by USSC and the Us DoS — include the following: • Review, discuss and debate the U.S., Australian and regional geo-strategic and geo-economic policy options both in response to opportunities and challenges in the Indo-Pacific. • To engage in a comprehensive conversation examining and analyzing opportunities and challenges in the Indo-Pacific and how the United States, Australia and regional nations can respond (individually, jointly or multilaterally) to these opportunities and challenges. • Challenge existing geo-economic and geo-strategic assumptions on the future of the Indo-Pacific. • Develop innovative policy recommendations for operationalizing strategy and identify shared strategic objectives/risks in the region through 2030. • Publish and disseminate a paper from the conference proceedings to inform U.S., Australian and regional policymakers, including engagement activities in Canberra and/or Washington DC. Participants in these activities — and the intended audience for the project's dissemination activities — will include members of Australian government departments with direct connection and input into government decisions. |
